How has everyone been?
I'm still in Hong Kong now.
The weather is SOOOOO hot just like Tokyo!
I work very late everyday , go home, eat dinner and sleep.
I have no life=( I work for a company called  Michael Page.
There is also one in Tokyo.
Its a recruitment firm that helps people find jobs!
Not very interesting and lots of hard work.
Please come to HK to visit me sometime!
I will try to visit within this year.
Is everyone still in Numata?
I want to see some recent pics!! please send them to me=)

Hi Mel !
This is a Motohiro Kubo who is your lovely pupil.
And you are my last English teacher.
There is no JET teacher in my Numata yet now.
But our Suzume is still drinkin' with unique conversation.
Sometimes we talk about you.
We only age a little, and have not changed.
Maybe you too? Or you can't grow old?
For instance, I cut my hair only once a year as usual.
We made a party for my hair cut commemoration
at Dr. Wakabayashi's hand making log cabin last Sunday.
I will send to you that's party pic.
Each one brought wine and the dish in.
The party continued until 6:00PM-0:00AM. Will you miss it?
We are very glad of you are energetic.
Yesterday's news was reported that the Numata high school will be closed.
What you taught is a charm of an interesting thing.
The conversation doesn't end as long as we keep being interested.
Of course, it is very important to
be able to use words other than Japanese at that time.
There is no end in the interesting even if there is no school.
Therefore we must meet again! |

I don't want your New York souvenir, but your New York story.
And now my relationship with Numata's Kyouikuiinkai is shaky.

すずめの学校 中退者の諸君、こんにちは。
卒業生の久保元宏です。
メリッサからメールが届きましたので、紹介いたします。
画像が大きいので観れない人は、久保商店まで来てください。

私もこれから、メリッサに返事を書きますが、皆さんも、どしどし書いてやってくださいね。
なんせ、すずめの学校が廃校になってから、英語力が落ちる一方ですので（がくっ）。
私なんぞ、「ハロー」のスペルが、「HARROW」かな？と、思えるほどに１５年前のレベルに戻ることができました。
やはり、継続は力なりで、老後のために年金には加入しておこうと思います。
若林さんの庭の桜も散ったようです。

Mr Kubo!!
I am now in New York City!=)
It's such a busy city.
Nothing stops here.
Even at 3am taxis are driving around the city.
I'm not used to the subway system but luckily it's quite easy to navigate.
I saw the picture you sent me. How was the party ?
I wish i was there!!
How are the talks going with Kyoikuinkai?
I heard that Mr. Takahashi is gone from the kyoikuinkai.
Did anyone else leave?
ha ha ha=)
Please tell me about the people from suzume.
How is Mizuki, Mr.Wakabayashi,Ayumi, and everybody else ?
I miss them all !

Yes. I think you are fit with New York.

But I think that
New York's subway system is very easy for me.
In 2001's spring I stay New York spend a week,
I was a subway's heavy user!
But I think that best style is just walking.
Every New York is New York.
I love all around NY !

My NY roommate who is
Dr.Nakagami couldn't walk with me.
Hooo.

To tell the truth,
I am a chairman of PTA
of the junior high school now.
It starts closing the Numata high school now.
Moreover,
I am behaving like last year's ALT problem.
I quite foolish. Hahaha.

for Yotaka Andon home festival
at end of this May.

とにかく、美術館、ギャラリーは可能な限り回ったよ。

隣に座ったコロンビアで働いているドイツ人医師と仲良くなる。
コロンビアの内戦について意見を交わす。
開演7：30ギリギリになると、中神氏が入ってきた。
なんと、中央の３列目というスペシャル・シートだ！
理由を聞くと、黒人の女の子に
「今日、私の彼氏が来れなくなったので、今夜、あんた私の彼氏をやんな」と
言われて、タダで入れたのだそうだ。
５月３０日、ハーレムの「アポロ・シアター」に行った方は、ラッキーだ。
そこに「モト」と名乗る無名のダンサーが出演して、
しかも大絶賛を浴びたと記憶しているであろう。
彼は、最終審査までのこり、地元の黒人ダンサーに負けない声援をもらった。
何人かにこのハナシをしても、信じないか、
「盆踊り？」「夜高あんどん祭りの踊りでも踊ったの？」と
オリエンタルがウケたのかと勘違いされた。
しかし、ジェームス・ブラウンと同じ舞台に上がれただけでも感激ものだったが、
自分のシンコペーション感覚が現在の黒人にも通用して、正直、嬉しかったのだよ。
まったく、２０年前を見せたかったよ。ゴホゴホ・・・。
ま、そんなわけで、ダンス後は黒人から握手責め、地下鉄の中でもはやされて、
・・・恥ずかしかった・が。
▲2001年5月31日 11:30Am チャイナ・タウンにある、「NEW BIG WONG RESTAURANT」に入る。
私の後ろから入ってきたニール・ヤングみたいなオヤジと向かい合わせに座る。
彼はフリー・ペーパーの『NEW YORK PRESS』を持って入ってきた。
メニューとニラメッコしていると、向こうから話し掛けてきて、
「お前は、ココ、初めてか？ここのモノはゼェ〜ンブ、ウマイ。」と恐い顔で説明。
「じゃあ、リコマンドしてくれよ」と言うと、
海鮮ドライカレー春雨（？）と、濃いソースのライス・クレープ（生春巻き？）を薦めた。
チンタオ・ビールが出てくると、「お前は昼間っから酒を飲むのか、ワッハッハッハ」。
「貴方、ニール・ヤングに似ていますね」と言うと、ゲラゲラ笑う。
彼のポーク・スープに入ったワンタンが出てくると、「一つ、食え」。
確かにウマイ。そればかりか、全てが美味い。
食べきれない２皿とビール１本で、＄９．２５。チップを入れても＄１１。
昨日の朝食＄３８と比べると……、！
NYのニール・ヤングはワンタンの皿の横に＄３をはさめて、
「ナイス・ミート・ユゥ」と私に手を差し伸べ、握手して帰った。なんてダンディなんだ。
私もマネして、皿のふくらみに＄１１はさめて帰った。

で、イースト・ハウストン・ストリートを
東にむかって、
「イースト・ヴィレッジ」に入ると、
なんだか居心地がイイ。

もちろん空いていない。
ここでパティ・スミス、ラモーンズが
暴れたのだから、緊張するねぇ〜。

無料情報誌『ヴィレッジ・ヴォイス』をGET。
数人の黒人がCBGBの前でたむろ。
何かを待っているのか？
中で一番クールそうな黒人に頼んで
写真パチリ。
ヤツは短くなったタバコに
未練を持ちつつ、

演劇シアター「La Mama E.T.C. ラ・ママ」
は、チケットを売る窓口のみ開いていた。
いかにも手作りのオフ・オフ・ブロードウエイ。置いてあるフライヤーが面白い。
モギリの女性に、「私は１９８４年にラ・ママ創設者ののエレン・スチュワートさんと、
東京の澁谷ラ・ママで一緒に数時間お酒を飲みました。
その時、是非、ニューヨークのラ・ママに行きますと約束しました。
約束を果すのに２０年近くかかりましたが。ははは・・・・・・。
しかも、もうエレンさんに会うことすらできない」と、言うと彼女は寂しそうにうなずいた。
でも心の中で彼女は「やれやれ、又、エレンの伝説の旅行者かよ」と、思っていたかも。 |

Hey Mr. Kubo and Suzume Students!
I've finally arrived home. It's nice to be back,
though I'm jet lagged and always want to sleep.
I'm sohappy to see my mom and cat again. Do you all miss meyet?
hee hee I definately always think about you all.
I got back in the morning and went to eat chinese food. IT WAS GREAT!=)
How have you all been doing?
I've just been unpacking my luggage, eating andsleeping. A lifestyle of a "pig" ^..^
I just wanted to let you all know that Im back andthat I miss you lots.
Thanks for giving me such a great experience over the past 2 years.
I'll definately be back to visit^_^
