Unless indicated otherwise, bass part is written for an ordinary F-bass.
So it sounds an ocatave higher than the F-clef.

Used annually for Pope's mass; it was a crime to copy this tune and play outside the church.
It has been told that Mozart was quick to hear this tune and make a copy of it.
It seems that this was an easy task for Mozart.
I have transcribed the first 2 and the last 2 tunes.
Other 10 tunes are similar with different words.
This music needs a place like church where you have long resonance.
The second part contains the high c for soprano, so I made a transcription to F which is easier.

Skill: 2
The most famous kanon ever made.
This arrangement is not mine.
Alto's high f may be the problem, but otherwise, this one is easy and fun to play.
Bass repeats the same pattern 28 times (don't get bored, it is essential).

Giga Alto Tenor Bass 1 Bass 2 MIDI
Badinerie MIDI
Recorder: ATBB
Skill: 3
An Italian composer of early Baroque period.
Bach seems to have been influenced by Corelli.
The slow and easy saraband is followed by gigue and badinerie with progressively fast passages for the alto.
The alto part is a little hard but fun to play.

Concerto in F parts MIDI
Recorder: AATB
Skill: 3
An Italian composer who lived the same era as Corelli
A little confusing name, isn't it?
Originally a concerto for trumpet.
Alto 1 plays the solo part, but alto 2 plays more 16th notes and is more flamboyant.
Tenor also plays many 16th notes, so you must have 4 equally skilled players.

Chaconne
Recorder: AA(T, optional)B

Also known as "Two in one upon a ground".
Bass repeats the same pattern of 6 bars.
Two altos play the perfect kanon.
With all these restrictions, the melody is surprisingly beautiful.
Tenor part is transcribed from the right hand of cembalo and thus a little hard to play.
This is enjoyable without tenor.
Alto is easy for intermediate players.

Accompanying cembalo is joined by the long tone of the violin very very quietly.

Originally in h minor, transposed to d minor.
The second movement is the hardest.
Melody requires some high notes.

Partita I for unaccompanied Violin

Corrente
Recorder: A
Skill: 3.5
The CD played by Szeryng is my favorite.
Technically difficult but beautiful.
High notes are abundant and the high a'''' appears as the last note.
This can be played by the fingering 0/23568.
8 being the bottom hole closed by the knee (or any part of your body).

Concerto for Oboe and Violin BWV1060

Second Movement MIDI
Recorder: AT
Skill: 2
You know the famous doppel concerto for 2 violins.
This is another doppel concert and is also famous, written for oboe and violin (originally for 2 keyboards).
The slow movement is simple and beautiful.
Transcribed up second and for alto and tenor recorders.
Range of recorder is fully utilized and there are 1 or 2 awkward fingerings.
However, playing it is relatively easy except for the high register notes.

Your can watch Loeck quartet play the allegro on YouTube.
They play in the original d minor; mine is in a minor which is a little easier to play.
Allegro is still hard to play; challenging for a group at intermediate level.
If your group can play it musically at the pace of the midi (using mostly single tongueing), you are advanced/upper-intermediate.
I like the Largo's unique rhythm and melody very much.

Bach did not specify which instrument should be used.
So, these fugues are played by many different instruments.
The one played by recorders is one of the best suited for the music.
It is my dream to play these beautiful fugues with perfect harmony like Amsterdam Loeki Stardust Quartet.
To play these through to the end is probably not very hard for intermediate or higher level groups.
To play like Loeki you will need good players and many hours of practice (is it possible at all?).
The soprano part of the Contrapunctus 3 is from another Japanese recorder sheet music site-MAT original score.
The contrapunctur 19 is unfinished ending at the measure 240.
I added 4 measures and completed this fugue (there are 2 versions).
For those who (I am pretty sure there are many) are unsatisfied with my little composition, please finish at the measure 239.

3 voiced inverted fugue MIDI
Recorder: AAB(or A, B, CB)
Skill: 3
BWV1080.13.1: the complete reversal of this fugue is printed on the opposite page.
Triplets and dotted notes make this fugue very light and fun to play.
The second alto plays high notes and may be a little difficult for beginners.
For a group with contrabass, the combination of alto, bass and contrabass is closer to the original.

12th canon MIDI
Recorder: AB
Skill: 2
Canon at the twelfth, BWV1080.17
Sextuplets may look intimidating, but they are relatively easy to play.

Soprano solo is played by the soprano recorder (exactly as the original).
Bach's oboe melodies are so touching; they are almost addictive.
Technically this one is relatively easy.

Missa A Major

Qui Tollis Peccata Mundi Alto1 Alto2 Soprano Bass MIDI

The obbligato played by two traversos are played by 2 alto recorders here.
Soprano solo is played by the soprano recorder.

Missa G Major

Domine Deus 。。Tenor Soprano Alto Bass MIDI
Recorder: TSAB
Skill: 2-3
Soprano and Alto play the beautiful duet (originally sung by soprano and alto) accompanied by light and witty violin.
This violin part is played by tenor (may also be played soprano) which is a little hard.
Bass is also (a little bit) hard.
Soprano and Alto are relatively easy.
This tune needed only minor modifications except the violin part.

Missa in G minor

Gratias MIDI
Recorder: ABB
Skill: 2
The aria sung by bass is played by the bass recorder 1.
Accompanying melancholic violin is played by alto recorder.
Some higher notes make this part a little hard to play.
The other parts are easy.

Many of Bach's chorales can be played easily by the recorders and they sound really good.

Cantata #140 Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme

to Bach index to Index

Choral Alto Soprano Tenor Bass MIDI
Recorder: ASTB
Skill: 3
A famous cantata with many transcriptions including the one by Kempf for the piano.
Alto must deal with the alternation of low A flat and B flat which may be a little difficult.
The aria is sung by a tenor. This is meant to be played by soprano recorder; tenor recorder may also play this, but 2 tenors may be better to make the melody stand out.

Aria (duet) Alto 1 Alto2 Alto 3 Bass MIDI
Recorder: AAAB
Skill: 2-3
Duet of soprano and bass accompanied by oboe.
I have long been affected with this melody (the major reason I bought an oboe--gave up soon).
The beautiful oboe obbligato is played by Alto 1 (this one is a little hard).
Alto 2 and 3 play the duet of soprano and bass (these are relatively easy).
Bass is basso continuo.
This part may sound better with contrabass recorder; in this case alto 3 may be played by an ordinary bass recorder which resembles original setting.

Cantata #106

Sonatina MIDI
Recorder: AAGBCB
Skill: 2
One of few music by Bach for the recorder.
Many of them are found in Cantatas.
This one is one of the most famous and beautiful.

GB part may be played by the bass.

Cantata #208 Hunting cantata

Choral
Recorder: ATA(Sn)B
Skill: 2-3
One of the most popular of Bach's secular cantatas.
This one is used as the theme music for NHK's morning baroque program.
Alto and Tenor play the original duet of 2 altos.
Alto 2 plays the choral melody; this part can also be played by sopranino.

Players who have no difficulty in playing the 3rd octave notes, please challenge the following version in the original B flat tonality.
You need a fairly good recorder to play these notes lightly with nice rhythm.

Cantata #147 Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben

Choral Joy of Man's Desiring Alto 1 Soprano Alto 2 Tenor Bass MIDI
Recorder: ASATB
